Ryan "RUFUS" Cathrall ls a professional photographer specializing in action sports, concert, and lifestyle as well as a contributing photographer for The Denver Post and www.heyreverb.com.
1999 was the year that I knew that I wanted to be a photographer. I found my late grandfathers Minolta SRT-101 in the basement of my grandparents house while digging around and looking at all the cool, old toys and train sets from my mothers youth.
I would drive all over Vermont with that camera and take pictures of anything and everything that I found interesting. That camera was by my sides at all times. I took pictures for friends and family, mainly nature photography as well as some tourism photography for some local stores in the Burlington area.
Photography took a back seat when I joined the Air Force, but it immediately resumed when I went on my first trip with the Vermont Air National Guard, becoming the trip photographer and bringing my images to the multimedia department. After my first deployment, I changed professions from an F-16 crew chief to a Air Force combat photojournalist and the love of photography exploded while embedded with the 101st Airborne and multiple Marine and Air Force units.
I started shooting at different downhill mountain bike races locally and then progressed to the UCI World Cup races in Canada and the US. The riders, teams, other photographers etc are like a family to me and I will never stray from the mountain bike world. I have had the pleasure to work with many top companies to include Devinci Cycles, Monster Energy, SixSixOne, Royal Racing, and Pro-Bike Gear to name a few, and have had many photos published in national and worldwide magazines.
My current move to Denver, CO has re-ignited the photo spark and has made me realize that this is what I am meant to do. I have had my camera in my hand every single day, literally, for the past 3 weeks and don't plan on putting it down in the near or distant future!
I am currently working with a few local bands to include Sarah Angela and the Meanies, shooting cyclocross racing and getting ready for the winter photo season. My clients for the 2012 winter season include Flylow Gear, DPS Skis, Burton Snowboards, and Bern Helmets to name a few, but am currently accepting more clients. I will also continue to shoot freelance concert photography for The Denver Post and www.heyreverb.com. I am open and available at any time for any project. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or (802) 310-9515.
